Act One

Bang!

God laughed.
A million galaxies
spiralled away like firecrackers
into the curving dark. 

How’s that! said God,
to nobody in particular. 

God considered 
nobody’s point of view.
His best ideas simmered
in the slow cooker of evolution.

Ah, men! beamed God,
and settled himself down
with a newly-minted audience
to enjoy the show. 

But the players hadn’t learned their lines.
Creation began to unravel
before God’s wondering eyes,
spectators coolly hardening
into critics.
