Fish
Eyes
staring out,
interlaced
in no definite order,
blue
on blue—
a
kind of marine family.
Secret
emblems of faith,
representing
the swirling oceans
set
apart from landlocked fauna
living
in their own colourful world.
Who
could tell us of their inner reality,
beneath
timeless waves
teeming
life
in
an unrelenting maelstrom of water?
Respect
this ancient symbol,
marker
of passing time,
crest
of never faltering true belief,
guardian
of the deep sea.
One of five poems written by Charles Jobson in response to paintings at the BEAT (Borough of Ealing Art Trail) exhibit at St John's Church, West Ealing in September 2018.
The painting is entitled Fish, by the artist and © Lynn Martinez.
